Hangaia to whare kōrero mā ngā pou rangahau e tu
Building your house of learning

The aim of Hui Whakapiripiri 2010 is to bring together the various strands of the health and research sectors, Māori community representatives, Māori health researchers and students to focus on the past and present achievements in, and the future direction of, Māori health and wellbeing. Hangaia to whare kōrero mā ngā pou e tu- building your house of learning, promotes collaboration, understanding, sharing and learning amongst participants at the Hui and between the wider health, research and Māori communities.

The theme flows throughout the four streams of; creativity, consent, consultation and community. The four streams recognise the use of traditional Māori knowledge along side contemporary research methods to achieve optimal Māori health outcomes.

Creativity - This stream encourages creative and innovative health research (methods, ideas and techniques) that benefit Māori communities as well as Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Consent - This stream addresses the ethical issue of consent, the process in which researchers gain consent and the importance of consent to Māori.

Consultation - This stream addresses the importance of consultation to Māori communities for both the initiation of a research project and the dissemination of research findings.

Community - This stream will look at community initiated research and the importance of community involvement in research projects, community led research and how research findings are translated into good health outcomes for Māori.

This theme was gifted to us by Mr Mauriora Kingi.
